Justice and Support for Sue Lovetro

Hi friends and Sue's friends - Our mutual friend Sue Lovetro is in trouble, and I hope you can help.

Some of you may know me. Sue's son, Matt, and my daughter attended school through 8th grade together, and I also taught Matt in 8th grade Social Studies at RMS. Since then, Sue -and Matt- has become a very good friend to me and my family during many years of a long term crisis concerning my daughter's health.

I am hoping now to help return that love and support with the creation of this GoFundMe.

About a year ago, Sue moved to Texas for a change of pace. She continued to provide for her son Matthew and her ex-husband, even while continuing her life-saving work on an organ transplant team.

At least until a few months ago, when Sue could not look away when certain practices and policies were being ignored in her workplace, and Sue was fired.

Of course, Sue - being Sue - immediately started looking for a new job even while picking up whatever "small" jobs she could find in Texarkana, but overall this very sudden loss of her job as well as the added burden of not being able to provide for her family members catapaulted Sue into a severe depression.

She actively sought help for her depression and anxiety, and she was put on medication for depression.

However, Sue suffered a rare traumatic psychotic break due to this medication. She somehow managed the wherewithal to call 911 for help before she could harm herself, but the responders chose to misinterpret her call for help as a criminal issue versus a mental health issue, and they arrested her and placed her in jail.

Since then, Sue has had two bail hearings, both of which have been denied. The judge has chosen to disregard the lab reports, taken on the night of her 911 call, that support medication as the cause of her issues. He has also chosen to discredit her many, many years of being an upstanding citizen of any community she has lived in, her long term membership in any local Mormon stake whereever she has lived, and her status as an amazing parent and caring friend.

Instead, the judge has chosen to criminalize her.

Sue's first lawyer not only drained her bank account but did nothing to help the situation. As of tonight, December 5, with the financial help of another friend, Sue's son has been able to secure an excellent criminal attorney who is hoping to get the charges dismissed or at the very least, reduced.

However, although the initial legal fees have been paid, there is no doubt this case will be long and costly. Sue is currently in jail until January 2, unless her lawyer is able to secure her bail - for which she will need financial help with. As well, general bills have been piling up in Sue's absence, and even should she get out on bail, she may not be able to find work between now and the January court date. Even once she is out, assuming her lawyer will be able to get her fully released, employment will be difficult to find immediately.

We know this time of year - and this year - is asking and has asked so much of all of you. But if you can contribute, whatever you give will be much appreciated and put towards not only Sue's release and exoneration but getting her back on her feet after.

Thank you!
