On July 22nd, 2024, I experienced a traumatic and life-altering event involving the Elyria police. Officers entered a residence where I did not live and attempted to serve a warrant that was not active, and that I had already served and was out on bond for. Despite never being shown a warrant, I tried to close the door, but a Sergeant tackled me to the stairs, using both hands around my throat to pin me down while kneeling on my neck and chest. This was especially dangerous for me, as I had previously suffered five broken vertebrae in my back, which were re-injured during the incident. The force of the tackle also caused me to have a seizure on the stairs.
As a result of this excessive and violent use of force, I am now facing significant legal and medical challenges. I am seeking to raise funds to cover the costs of filing a lawsuit against the Elyria Police Department and the Sergeant involved. The money raised will go directly toward attorney fees, court costs, and any other expenses necessary to pursue justice and accountability for what happened to me. I believe it is important to hold police officers accountable for their actions, especially when their behavior endangers the very people they are meant to protect.
I am asking for your support during this difficult time. Please consider donating to my fundraiser and sharing my story with others. You can also view and share the video of the incident, which is circulating on the internet and available on my Facebook page (Christopher Johnson). Your help will not only assist me in my fight for justice but also send a message that aggressive and violent behavior by law enforcement cannot go unchecked. Thank you for standing with me.
