Samiel Malachi was a compassionate individual whose life was tragically cut short while incarcerated in Henrico Jail. On Sunday night, I was on the phone with him as he expressed deep fear for his safety. He told me that others were threatening him, calling him a 'snitch,' and he firmly denied the accusation. Samiel was desperate to be transferred to another jurisdiction to protect himself, but sadly, he never had the chance to make that request. During a conversation with his mother, the line suddenly went silent. I heard two choking sounds, followed by an unsettling quiet. Despite my repeated attempts to call his name, there was no response. At that moment, I felt a deep unease, fearing something terrible had happened. The next day, I received the devastating news that Samiel had died at 4:30 AM. His death occurred during our phone conversation, not the following morning as initially reported. Samiel had no known medical issues and had been maintaining sobriety since his incarceration in December. The manner in which his life was taken was both violent and unwarranted, showing a complete lack of mercy. Samiel will never have the opportunity to return home and enjoy his life again. I am reaching out for help to secure justice for my son and to cover the costs of his funeral and related expenses. This journey will be long and difficult, but I am resolutely committed to advocating for justice on his behalf. Any support you can provide will make a meaningful difference during this incredibly challenging time.
