As you may or may not have seen, there has been a video circulating the internet of two innocent German Shepherds being beaten by a “Trainer”- The owner of Lunar Canine in Brentwood, NH, formally Cosmic Canine out of Methuen, MA. She has very quickly gone viral for her disgusting behavior and is now well known for all of the wrong reasons across many platforms. This video is extremely disturbing and unsettling. Someone who once portrayed themselves as an experienced trainer and animal lover- now charged with two counts of Animal Cruelty out of Massachusetts.
If you are still reading, I want to thank you for taking the time to read Thor’s Story. My name is Kate and I am starting this Go Fund Me for my sister Leanne, her boyfriend Mark, and their sweet baby Thor.
The owner of Lunar Canine was someone I knew through a lifelong friend of mine; they had dated for years some time ago. That was why I recommended her board and train services when my sister and her boyfriend were looking for a trainer for their puppy- Thor. I never could have imagined the horror that would follow what was supposed to be a positive experience for their 7-month-old German Shepherd -Black Lab puppy. This experience was far from positive, and now they are struggling to nurse their sweet loving boy back to good health.
Below I will share their story and pictures of our sweet baby:
Mark and Leanne reached out to the owner of Lunar Canine and inquired about her services. After some conversation, and back and forth, they decided to move forward with her training program. They signed Thor up for four weeks of board and train in Brentwood, NH at the new training facility- Lunar Canine. They were promised updates and progress pictures throughout his stay. Instead, they were met with crickets when they would reach out. During his four weeks, there was scattered correspondence with brief updates if they were lucky enough to get a response. They were able to receive maybe 3 pictures while he was gone. While on Instagram, my sister realized that the owner of Lunar Canine was away in Vegas while she was supposed to be training their puppy- likely the reason for no response for several days.
Fast forward to the end of his four weeks at Lunar Canine- the owner asked that she keep Thor for an additional week, free of charge as there were some additional things that she wanted to work on. While Mark and Leanne found this odd, they complied and asked if they should bring additional food. They were assured by the owner of Lunar Canine that there was plenty. Again, they found this odd as typically the amount of food they sent him with would likely not be enough but they took her word- trusting that he was in good hands despite that gut feeling that something was not right.
Now it is time for Mark and Leanne to finally go and pick Thor up at the conclusion of his 5 weeks. This part presented them with even more barriers. Changes of days, and time changes for pick up. Once they were finally able to be given a time to retrieve him, they were presented with an extremely dirty, malodorous and extremely malnourished Thor (and apparently misplaced leash, harness and toy he was sent with). That night they brought him to be groomed, and low and behold, when he was weighed, he has lost nearly 30 lbs while he was away. Mark reached out to the owner of Lunar Canine immediately, inquiring about this weight loss. Mark asked- were you feeding him 2 scoops of food 2x a day? To which she responded that she was feeding him 3 scoops 2x a day- but that she did think he looked a bit “lanky”. Something was not adding up.
This prompted Mark and Leanne to immediately schedule a vet visit as they knew something was very off with their poor baby. They were right, the significant weight loss was confirmed, and after several blood tests he was found to have Gardia and Circavirus. Fast forward another two weeks, Thor was still not himself; he was extremely lethargic and not eating much. At first he started favoring certain paws, then quickly thereafter, he started to lose the ability to use his back legs- it was almost as if they were paralyzed. He had to be helped to stand up, and to walk up and downstairs. This once extremely happy healthy puppy was deteriorating right before our eyes.
This prompted another visit to the vet. He was placed on more medication, and puppy bedrest. With rest, and help from the new medication, he was able to start walking again. Pending additional X-rays for his back legs.
When more and more health concerns started to pile up, Mark reached out to the owner of Lunar Canine to question what really went on when Thor was under her care. He explained all of the concerns and health issues that were confirmed at the vet. She informed him that he was fine while he was there. She mentioned feeding him raw frozen treats and maybe those did not agree with him- but it was far more than that. Her only other thought was that perhaps he must have been sick before or that maybe he got sick from drinking dirty pond water on one of their hikes and she should have been more careful.
Now, fast forward to this week- Thursday,1/15/2026. Mark got a call from daycare; Thor had collapsed and would not drink or eat anything. Mark brought Thor to Tufts ER in Walpole, MA immediately. There were several additional tests that they ran to try and get to the bottom of his massive health decline. During his exam, the doctors reported concern that his decline could be due to Neurological issues. He has been biting at his tail, which previously we had chalked up to a cut from Happy Tail. The Vet believes that this was not the case, and it could be due to Neurological concerns, and there is a good possibility that a portion of his tail will have to be amputated. During their testing, they discovered that he has worms, which explains why he has continued to lose weight despite a new prescription diet for weight gain. They have run a plethora of additional testing that will take about a week or two before results are back. They are also planning to schedule CT scans of his abdomen and also extensive Neurological testing.
With all of this being said, our family is extremely heartbroken by the rapid decline in Thor’s health. What was supposed to be a positive training experience with someone who was trusted turned into Mark and Leanne’s worst nightmare. We have no idea what Thor went through for those long 5 weeks away from home. We can’t help but imagine the worst after seeing the viral video of her abusing other helpless dogs. While we are hoping the Neurological testing shows no findings, the Vet has voiced that they believe negligence was a factor, and these symptoms could in fact be consistent with blows to the head.
In the last few months, as you can imagine, medical bills have been piling up as his decline progresses, and we expect that this is only the beginning as more and more tests and medications are being recommended. I am also anticipating legal fees in Mark and Leanne’s future so that justice can be served for Thor and other babies who were also neglected and abused in Lunar Canine’s care.
Thank you in advance to anyone who took the time to read Thor’s whole story and thank you in advance for any donation big or small. Anything helps. It may not take away the emotional distress, but it certainly helps the growing, unexpected financial burden during Thor’s long road to recovery.
As Thor’s current condition changes, and more tests and scans are performed, I will continue to update this page. Our heart goes out to anyone else who has been affected.
1/23- Hi everyone just a little update, still waiting for some of Thors tests to come back. Unfortunately, part of his tail was amputated today. We are hoping with more medication and his cone it will heal well and not require more to be removed.
