Some of you know me as the visual artist and editor 'verylovingcat.jpg,' but most of you might not know that I’m a husband, father, and full-time worker doing my best to take care of my family. Recently, while driving to work, my car was hit by a man who was distracted and using his phone. The accident has totaled my vehicle, but because there’s no video footage, his insurance company has denied liability. Despite the clear damage, I’m now being forced to pay out of pocket.

Right now, I’m borrowing a family member’s car just to get to work — a one-hour commute each way. My wife is disabled and lives with lupus, and both my daughter and I are on the autism spectrum. Our car was essential for everything from doctor’s visits to groceries and school.

I’m asking for help covering:

• The cost of getting my car out of the impound lot

• Repairs or a replacement vehicle

• Related legal or towing fees
