JUST "NO" TO MINING IN COCONUT WELL

Donation protected
HI Community,

Almost a year ago, a Company called Out West Resources launched an Application to attain a Prospecting Permit and then Miscellaneous License over 200 Hectares of "Unclaimed Crown Land" just North of Broome. This massive plot of land is surrounded by the Yawuru Conservation Park and adjacent the Coconut Well Community and Coastal lagoon where Broomies and tourists alike come to enjoy the "Float Parade" each high tide. Some portions of the same land are subject to other Aboriginal Cultural Heritage claims and is within the Djukun Tribes lands which run all the up nearby Willie Creek.

The Principal of the Company cites in an Open Letter addressed to local residents is that they intend to look for "Ironstone, Sandstone, & Conglomerate... materials that "can be used to make Concrete". Additionally, his Miscellaneous Permit seeks to allow this Company to construct sheds, buildings, a laydown yard, sink bores and 'take water'.

This is an area of unspoilt natural beauty ... it's also an area where any unhindered extraction of ANY ground water could affect not only the local community (who rely on groundwater for their only source of water - and in some cases, prime some of income for farm irrigation) but also could potentially impact Broome-towns own source of water which naturally flows underground from the water table to the North of the town.

Why should his go unchecked ? and why, if ever, should it be given the go ahead ?

To stop this Prospector in his tracks - a group of concerned Residents of Coconut Well have listed themselves as named "Objectors" to the Mining Warden sitting in the Magistrates Court in Perth. We have hired a reputable Legal Firm to represent the Objections and are currently going through the required back-and-forth with the Applicant. To date - this has been funded by contributions from the Objectors but eventually, the matter may be set for Trial which will involve further expense and the Objectors would like to appeal to the greater Broome Community to help us financially support this Cause and see this, and any other likely "Prospectors" off our area and away from lands that should be preserved for generations to come.

A Concrete "Mine" has absolutely no place in such a pristine natural environment and should be denied at every level.

Please join us and make a Contribution to the Cause. 100% of proceeds will be transferred to the Legal Trust Fund to support the legal representation of the Objectors in this matter.
