Just Breathe for Madison
Donation protected
Madison is a 27-year-old living with Cystic Fibrosis. Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is a progressive, terminal genetic disease that causes persistent lung infections and limits the ability to breathe over time. When she was diagnosed with CF at the young age of 18-months, doctors told Madison’s parents to be prepared for her to pass before graduating high school. With the help of medical advances and a strict treatment regimen, Madison has since surpassed her original life expectancy.
She has gone on to marry her high school sweetheart and has been working as an intensive care unit nurse for the last five years despite being placed on life support during her senior year of nursing school. Recently, Madison found out she is experiencing a complication from Cystic Fibrosis that is associated with significantly increased rates of morbidity in patients with CF.
Additionally, many patients who have this complication are permanently disqualified from receiving life-saving lung transplants. The treatment course is challenging due to long, complicated and difficult to tolerate IV antibiotic regimens. However, without treatment, the significant damage to her lungs will progress and result in decreased lung function and ultimately death.
Therefore, Madison’s doctors have decided to begin treatment, which will include a minimum of 12 weeks of IV antibiotic therapy (with infusions roughly every 4-6 hours 24/7) followed by up to 9 months of oral antibiotics. Even with decent health insurance provided to hospital-employees like Madison, this treatment costs roughly $350 per day out of pocket. Additionally, Madison will be out of work for the full 12 weeks while she is receiving IV medications, resulting in loss of income.
__ Hi there! I'm Sara DiPardo. I organized this GoFundMe for Madison as a way to help with the costs of her upcoming treatments. I will also be doing a 5K, 8K and 10K in her honor where all proceeds get donated to Research for Cystic Fibrosis. In addition I will have a Game of Chance full of Beachbody products. For every $5 donated your name will be entered. I will end it on the day of my 10K. This GoFundme will remain open though!
