Help Danielle Caitland Kaplan Rebuild After Devastating Fire
Donation protected
In December 2023, my daughter Danielle took a brave step toward living simply and independently. She moved her trailer—gifted to her by her older sister—to a quiet parcel of land she rented near St. Lazare, Manitoba. Her dream was to live "off the grid," building a peaceful, self-sufficient life close to nature. She hauled in her own water, kept warm with a wood stove, and had electricity set up in the trailer. It wasn’t easy, but she was making it work and was in the process of arranging for a well to be dug.
Then, in early May, disaster struck.
Around May 4, a fire swept through Danielle’s encampment. A nearby woodpile caught fire and the flames quickly spread, engulfing everything she had stored in a carport. In a matter of minutes, Danielle lost everything she owned—except for the clothes on her back.
Gone were her tools, art supplies, computers, TVs, and cherished DVDs. Her music recording equipment, furniture, bedding, and storage bins filled with everyday and seasonal clothing were destroyed. The fire took her air hockey table, keepsake jewelry, sports gear, makeup, purses, shoes, and jackets—items collected over a lifetime, all gone in an instant.
Danielle is now starting over from nothing. We are hoping to raise funds to help her replace essential items and regain some stability as she works to rebuild her life.
Any amount you can give will make a real difference. Even if you're unable to donate, please consider sharing this page to help spread the word.
