Jurgen Baum Emergency Fund
Donation protected
Hi, everyone-
My name is Jarrett Koral and my grandfather, Jurgen Baum, was killed in a hit-and-run while riding his bicycle to work as a school crossing guard on February 4th in Sunrise, FL. My grandfather was a kind and loving man who cared immensely for creativity, his family, friends and neighbors.
He was also a cat lover, and he took in many strays and allowed them to roam the house as they wished. At the time of his passing, he had five cats, one of whom, Wendy, needs emergency surgery to remove a tumor near her throat. Prognosis is good, but surgery isn’t cheap. Knowing he cared immensely for these cats, I’ve taken it upon myself to take care of them and make sure they’re in good health during this period of time.
My mother and I, his only living relatives, both live in the Detroit area, where my grandfather came to live when he immigrated from Germany. It’s quite costly to come back and forth to Sunrise, for weeks at a time. That being said, my mother and I both work low-wage jobs (her in retail, me at a public school), and because we haven’t been able to work during this time, we’re running out of money, fast.
This fundraiser essentially serves as a way to get immediate care for the cats, to keep the power on at his house, and to help fund future trips to Sunrise so we can continue to figure out this situation. This is a devastating time for both of us, so any help that can be offered to help connect the dots and pick up the pieces is MORE than appreciated.
Thank you,
Jarrett Koral
