Mi nombre es María Paula Gómez Yépez, nací en esta ciudad hace 26 años, y por nuestra naturaleza guayaquileña, siempre he estado ligada a actividades de acción social, dedicando gran parte de mi tiempo al voluntariado, participando en movimientos católicos de ayuda a enfermos y niños de escasos recursos, llenándome de satisfacción personal poder ayudar a personas, que aunque fueran desconocidas para mí, sentía la necesidad de apoyarlos en duros momentos de sus vidas. Esta situación me motivó a convertirme a los 19 años de edad en bombera voluntaria del Benemérito Cuerpo de Bomberos de Guayaquil.
Desde el voluntariado, he podido trabajar con personas de escasos recursos, convirtiéndose en una tradición, junto a un grupo de amigos, celebrar fiestas de navidad para niños y enfermos de cáncer; he realizado colectas para damnificados, especialmente luego del terremoto en Manabí, entregando con mucho cariño las donaciones, que aunque no fueron muchas, sabíamos que ayudarían a las personas que las necesitaban, mejorando aunque sea un momento es vivencia tan terrible en sus vidas.
Ahora soy yo la que pide ayuda.
Hace poco me diagnosticaron etapa 2B de Linfoma de Hodgkin, un cáncer que se origina en el sistema linfático, que es parte del sistema inmunitario que ayuda a combatir infecciones y algunas otras enfermedades; también ayuda a controlar la circulación de líquidos en el cuerpo. El tejido linfático se encuentra en muchas partes del cuerpo, de modo que el linfoma de Hodgkin puede originarse en casi todas las partes del cuerpo. En mi caso, está localizado en los ganglios del cuello y alrededor de mi corazón.
Conforme los estudios preliminares, debo seguir un tratamiento oncológico a base de quimioterapias, aproximadamente por ocho meses, pero desafortunadamente, no cuento con los recursos económicos suficientes para un tratamiento de este tipo.
Esta situación por abrumadora que parezca, me ha hecho valorar mi vida y la ayuda de mi familia y amigos, así como de personas, que sin conocerlas me han extendido su mano generosamente para combatir esta terrible enfermedad, que desconoce de edades o situaciones económicas, pero estoy segura que venceré.
Estoy por empezar mi primera etapa de quimioterapia por 4 meses, y me espera un largo camino de resultados y luchas por vencer, pero tengo la confianza de que con tu generosidad, esto será sólo una prueba más y en un futuro tendré la oportunidad de contribuir con mi testimonio de fe y agradecimiento, para quienes deban sufrir una enfermedad similar.

¡Hi Everyone!
My name is María Paula Gómez Yépez, I was born in Guayaquil-Ecuador 26 years ago, and as it is our nature in Guayaquil, I have always been very involved to social action and charity, dedicating a large part of my time to volunteering, participating in Catholic movements to help the sick and children of limited resources, my heart is complete when I’m able to help people, that even though they are unknown to me, I feel the need to support them in hard moments of their lives. This situation motivated me to become a volunteer firefighter at the age of 19 at the Guayaquil Fire Department.
From volunteering, I have been able to work with people of limited resources, and it has become a tradition. We gather with a group of friends every year, to celebrate Christmas parties for children and cancer patients; I have collected donations for victims, especially after the earthquake in Ecuador, helping people with lots of love, helping them for a little moment in this terrible experience of their lives.
Now, it's me who asks for help.
A few weeks ago I was diagnosed with stage 2B of Hodgkin lymphoma, a cancer that originates in the lymphatic system, which is part of the immune system that helps fight infections and some other diseases; It also helps control the circulation of fluids in the body. Lymphatic tissue is found in many parts of the body, so that Hodgkin's lymphoma can originate in almost every part of the body. In my case, it is located in the neck ganglia and around my heart.
According to the preliminary studies, I must follow an oncological treatment based on chemotherapy, approximately for eight months, but unfortunately, I do not have enough economic resources for a treatment of this type.
This situation, overwhelming as it may seem, has made me value my life and the help of my family and friends, as well as of people who, without knowing them, have generously extended their hands to fight this terrible disease, which is unknown of ages or economic situations. but I'm sure I'll win.
I am about to start my first stage of chemotherapy for 4 months, and a long road of results and struggles to overcome, but I am confident that with your generosity, this will be just another test and in the future I will have the opportunity to contribute my testimony of faith and gratitude, for those who must suffer a similar fight.
