JUNO'S STORY
In summer of 2024, our 3 year old German Shepherd, Juno, suddenly developed lameness in her back legs. X-rays determined that she has "severe" hip dysplasia, meaning she needs major lifestyle adjustments and may require corrective surgery in the future. Unfortunately these procedures are very expensive, and our current insurance barely covers those costs.
But to make matters worse, we knew the hip dysplasia may have only been an incidental finding...and sure enough there was more behind her sudden onset of lameness. She was further diagnosed with Immune Mediated Poly-Arthritis, meaning her immune system was attacking all of her joints. With her condition getting worse, we struggled to find ways to diagnose the underlying cause given that we had already blown through our insurance.
Fortunately with the help of some very committed and affordable vets, we eventually discovered that her IMPA was caused by contact with anaplasmosis, a tick-borne disease, which is very rare in the UK. She was promptly given the right antibiotics is now currently on steroids to treat the IMPA, and is making a recovery!
However, just the cost of the lengthy diagnostics put us roughly £4k in debt, beyond what was already covered by the insurance.
And hip dysplasia surgery can be anywhere from around £3k - £10k per hip.
So this page is an effort to firstly cover the existing debt and to then raise funds for any future treatments that Juno may need, and any money that does not get spent on treatments for Juno will be donated to charities such as Dogs Trust and Battersea Dogs & Cats Home.
We did, however, want to treat this fundraising campaign as more of an ongoing project with a creative angle!
GIVEAWAYS
For donations over certain values, we'll be doing giveaways ranging from postcards, limited prints, jewellery and hopefully much more in the future! We'll be constantly updating our inventory of goodies and will be giving them away on a "first come, first served" basis.
The dream would be to have this project start as something small for Juno, and eventually grow into a creative enterprise that helps raise money for animal charities!
