Juno's Emergency Transfusion & IMHA Treatment
Donation protected
Hi everyone, my name is Teresa and I’m starting this fundraiser for my 10-month old Goldendoodle, Juno. I’m not one to come to the internet/social media to ask for financial assistance, but over the past 3 days our vet bills have racked up trying to find some answers to Juno’s sudden change in behavior. Fortunately, we have pet insurance but even with that, we are looking at a pretty hefty vet bill.
On 4/14, we thought Juno had accidentally consumed some marijuana since he was suddenly acting disoriented and unable to stay awake. We were advised to have him rest and monitor at home since he was eating/drinking and playing as normal.
On 4/15, we brought Juno to the vet and they confirmed his drug test came back negative for any THC and bloodwork came back normal. Juno continued to feel better throughout Sunday night.
On 4/17, Juno woke up and was visibly not acting like himself. He didn’t have his usual crazy puppy energy, had no appetite for his favorite treats, and had no interest in playing fetch. My gut told me that something was wrong and took him in for a recheck.
His bloodwork came back and his red blood cells dropped significantly within 48 hours from 37% to 14%. The vet deemed him as severely anemic and we were transferred over to SAGE SF for an urgent blood transfusion. He will be there for a couple of nights as they monitor and perform more tests. The doctors suspect he has immune-mediated hemolytic anemia, or IMHA, an autoimmune disease in dogs where the body attacks its own red blood cells. We still don’t know if it’s primary (no cause) or secondary (underlying disease); either way, we are anxiously waiting for some answers and praying for some good news. Juno is my baby and we just want to see him get better so we can bring him home soon. Any help would be appreciated, whether it be sharing or donating. Thank you!
