Juni's Journey - Life-threatening Stroke
Our 23-month-old niece, Juniper (Juni), suffered a rare and life-threatening paediatric stroke that left her with brain damage. After discovering this, Juni was rushed from Geelong Hospital to the Royal Melbourne Hospital. There, she underwent an Endovascular clot retrieval to save her life.
Juni was then transferred again to the Royal Children's Hospital Intensive Care Unit. She spent several nights in the ICU until she was stable enough to be moved to a ward where she remains under the care of the Neurology team. The cause of the stroke is under investigation.
Juni's parents, John and Sarah, along with her sister Pearl (4), have been steadfast in their support. The parents split their time between caring for Juni and Pearl. The family live in Geelong and has been provided with temporary accommodation at the Ronald McDonald House.
Despite the successful removal of the clot, Juniper has suffered brain damage, which has caused multiple neurological deficits. She requires intensive daily rehabilitation from the Rehabilitation Team at the Royal Children's. This level of intensive intervention will be needed for months.
It's paramount for Juni that both parents are available to provide intensive rehabilitation.
John is the sole provider in their household, working as a contracted engineer. He does not have any leave entitlements. The severity of Juni's condition prevents him from earning income.
We have created this GoFundMe page to support the family as they rally around Juniper. The money raised will;
- Cover their rent in Geelong.
- Accommodation
- Food
- Travel (to and from Geelong)
- Specialised equipment, such as anti-bed sore mattresses. This will assist Juniper when she is ready to go home.
Any donation, regardless of the amount, will be greatly appreciated. It will make a significant difference in ensuring the family's ability to support Juni's journey in the coming months.
