Hi,
Our beautiful daughter Juniper AKA Super June was born 11/12/2024 weighing in at 7lbs and was born with a hypoplastic thumb, underdeveloped/immature nervous system and positional plagiocephaly of the head. Even though my hospital stay after delivering Juniper was mainly uneventful she did have a semi- rough beginning of life in the OR presenting with blue dusky skin and lower than normal oxygen levels right after delivery. This all was a sign of poor oxygen circulation throughout her blood stream. Very shortly after medical intervention her oxygen levels stabilized with blow by oxygen and she was able to recover very quickly. But she did start to have strange tremors in the recovery ward and all tests came back inconclusive so the medical staff pointed to it most likely being a sign of an underdeveloped nervous system.
Juniper than was discharged from the hospital but she did continue with these abnormal tremors and reflex problems. We aren’t sure if this is why she shows slight developmental delays with reaching some of her milestones at this time. We also cannot say if any of this was due to the brief period without adequate oxygenation during her transition to life outside the womb. But we have ruled out anything genetic so far linked to her medical conditions to this present day and we will have to see how she continues to develop as she grows up.
Futhermore,
we also had a MRI and EEG done at children’s hospital and numerous other tests that came back normal/inconclusive and did not show anything concerning which was good news but still did not give us answers for her presents symptoms. During all of the medical investigating we did start physical and occupational therapy and had a 3-D imaging head scan done at craniotechnologies confirming the plagiocephaly diagnosis caught originally early on from the MRI she had at children’s hospital.
Positional Plagiocephaly just means a portion of her head is flat which in turn is leading to an overall mild asymmetry of her face and head. Juniper’s plagiocephaly was confirmed to need treatment by craniotechnologies and is curable because her head is very malleable right now and if taken care of early on her head is able to be reshaped with gentle pressure from this medical helmet.
After we put in a insurance claim with Craniotechnologies which makes the medical helmet their company quoted us $2100 and told us that our new insurance plan will not be covering any of it given that our out of pocket max for the year and deductible are way higher for this plan than the previous insurance we had and the helmet will not be covered until these terms for the yearly healthcare service plan is completed. Unfortunately this is unrealistic for Junipers care timeline and she cannot wait for these insurance requirements to be fulfilled before starting her helmet treatment so we need to pay it fully out of pocket.
Here is the link to craniotechnologies that we go to here in Colorado
We are at a complete loss given we have so many medical bills already from Children’s hospital from previous insurance plans and only a portion of her out of pocket expenses and deductible payments have been carried over to help meet her insurance requirement. This is the last thing I wanted to have to do but I’d really hate Juniper to grow up with a misshapen noggin on top of everything else she will have to endure with future thumb surgery’s and therapy. I am trying my best as her momma to do right be her. If you feel lead to donate it would mean the world to not only her parents but even more so to June!
Thank you for you’re time and support
