My niece, June, has Hodgkin's Lymphoma. She was diagnosed last year a few days after her 25th birthday. After going through 6 rounds of chemotherapy last year, she has recently found out that the cancer is back. This time she will need a more aggressive treatment plan.
June met with oncologists at the Cancer Care Alliance in Seattle and they agreed to take her case. She has a plan to pay for the treatments, lodging, meals and most living expenses during this second round. But, she won't be able to work and it is unclear how long it will take for her recovery so it is very possible that funds could get low. June has already saved $2,500 herself and thinks that with her insurance coverage that an additional $1,500 will be enough to get her through, so that is my goal with this campaign.
The funds that we raise here will go towards the following items:
* Travel: gas, car maintenance, food if they are unable to pre-make or store groceries.
* Housing: for extended stay in Seattle if prolonged treatment is needed.
* Pharmacy: perscriptions not covered by insurance, sanitizer, barbicide wipes, vitamins, over the counter medications, face masks, skin care products (chemotherapy makes skin sensitive and dry).
* Personal Comfort: pillows, blankets, socks, hand braces (if nerve damage worsens), etc. Anything to keep her comfortable during her treatment.
* Air Purifier: needed when staying in unsterilized rooms (anywhere that is not in a hospital) during treatment.
I know that June is incredibly thankful to everyone who has taken the time to give anything to her over the past year to help in any way (food, money, thoughts & prayers, time, hugs, friendship & love). For myself, I would like to say that I adore this beautiful girl. It is so hard to see her go through this. But one thing that I have always admired about her is her sassy spirit, her incredible wit, and her shut-up-and-just-do-it attitude. It would be very hard for June to ask anyone to help her this way, which is why I am. So, from both of us... thank you, THANK YOU.
