Junior Thompson Needs Our Help!!!!
Here is his story:
He is a 20-year-old young man with aspirations of working in law enforcement. He is a friend to anyone he meets. Some family friends have said he is the politest young man they have ever met. I personally can attest to this!
He has a disease called Idiopathic Angioedema.
Idiopathic (“Idiopathic” describes a condition with an unknown cause. In other words, researchers have not yet determined what causes the inflammation and swelling.)
Angioedema is a skin reaction that causes swelling in tissues under the skin. The cause is unknown, but stress, infections, and exposure to heat or allergens may trigger it.
His hospitalizations began in 2017. Since 2021, he has been hospitalized over 12 times at various hospitals and intubated at least as many times.
His throat starts to swell up and then breathing becomes difficult, so much so that intubation is a necessary course of action. It has become more difficult for doctors to intubate, so Junior agreed to have surgery so a tracheostomy could be done.
Tracheostomy is a procedure to help air and oxygen reach the lungs by creating an opening into the trachea (windpipe) from outside the neck. A person with a tracheostomy breathes through a tracheostomy tube inserted in the opening. Junior can now have some control over his breathing by opening the tube if he starts to have an attack.
He was told by a doctor that if he didn’t have a tracheostomy, he could die on the flight to San Diego to see an Angioedema specialist, if he had an attack on the plane.
The UC San Diego Angioedema Center is the ONLY clinic on the West coast that treats this disease.
I am asking for donations for Junior and his family to be able to travel to San Diego, CA. They have an appointment in February of 2024. This family is on a fixed income and can’t afford the trip for this life-threatening disease without our community of friends and family helping them.
Thank you in advance for any monetary help and prayers for Junior and his family, which includes his mom, Diana and his younger brother, Eddie.
