In case everyone wants the full story
What has happened since Saturday at 5am:
Dad yelled for Amber saying he needed help. When she got there his legs were about to buckle. She called 911. They were in route to Knox when they pulled off to the side and got out to tell Amber his blood pressure is super high we are taking him to Laporte. 6:30 get in to ER at Laporte doctor comes in gets blood work, checks his bp 172/108 (apparently it was much higher in the ambulance just not sure what it was.) They take him to CT. In the mean time waiting for those results they are insisting that it’s vertigo and not a stroke. CT results come back he had a stroke on his left cerebellum. He can move legs and all functions. Just can’t walk. 3 hours later he gets moved into ICU. We are told then he will have an MRI first thing tomorrow (Sunday) morning.
Sunday 9am:
Amber and Ashlie get to ICU we ask his nurse when his MRI is they tell us it’s on their list they just don’t know a time yet. Couple hours go by and Ashlie and Amber at this point are getting mad. Don’t know if it’s getting worse without more images. We go talk to the nurse and we ask her look when is his MRI like why aren’t u guys doing anything. And the nurse says his MRI isn’t until Monday morning now, apparently no one does MRIS on Sunday. So the neurologist comes in about 2 says we are trying to call someone in to get an MRI today. Not sure yet or not if he will get it today. Amber asks her u know who’s to say this isn’t getting worse when no images have been done since yesterday morning. (At this point dad’s pain is no longer low numbers it’s at an 8 and his head isn’t just hurting on the back left side it’s all over on the back of his head.) the neurologist says that if it was getting worse he would have troubles breathing and not being able to move etc etc. 4:30 comes and they say hey he’s going down to MRI right now it will be an hour. We leave to go get food come back and immediately the doctor comes in. Says that the stroke is growing and swelling his brain and that he’s to be transferred out of here to a hospital that has a neurosurgeon. 7:30 porter hospital says no they have no room, memorial is the same way. 8:00 we are told that Franciscan in Fort Wayne is coming to get him. So Ashlie and I head home to get bags around, shower, and get an hour or so of sleep. We tell the nurses call us when they get here to get dad so we can head to Fort Wayne. They agree. 11:30 Ashlie gets a phone call. Fort Wayne can’t come get him that the weather they have no ambulance or air are transporting. The nurse tells us we have two options. Either A wait till morning. Or off the record B u can come discharge him and drive him yourself. Ashlie and I at this point are mortified they even said that since u know he has a brain that’s swelling. So Ashlie tells him hey we will wait to morning if by chance if another hospital comes and gets him call me.
Monday 5:30:
Amber gets up calls Laporte to get the ball rolling on when he’s being transferred etc. nurse asks Amber if she’s heard from Ashlie that Munster came and got him at 1:30am. So Amber calls Ashlie, Ashlie says she hasn’t received anything from them no missed calls nothing. Ashlie then calls Munster and they say he isn't there. Ashlie then calls Laporte and gets shitty asking where dad is. They then call then call Ashlie back. They (Laporte) said he is in fact in Munster and then proceeded to apologize that they were calling the wrong number for the transport information.
Monday 8am
We get to Munster go to his room and within an hour we have a million doctor's come in. The swelling hasn't gotten worse and he has plenty of room in his skull to allow if any more swelling was to happen. So there is no need to do the decompression of the skull at this point in time.
Monday 11ish
Physical therapy comes in and he walks with them down the hall and back. He said "I did a great job...time to go home" as his nurse is shaking her head and saying no no you didn't (great laughing moment).
Monday 12ish
Stroke doctor comes in and talks with us and he will be having an angiogram Tuesday morning to figure out why that section of the brain is still getting blood when the 2 arteries that supply blood to that area are blocked.
All in all he was in great spirits all day Monday. He had some lunch, decaf coffee, and his favorite lemon meringue pie. He was awake much of the day and laughing and bullshitting lol
Tuesday: Ashlie called up about 7:45 to see how dad did throughout the night. Said he was doing good. Had a CT already this morning and Ashlie asked about those results. Everything looks good no extra swelling and no growth of stroke. He’s got a bit of a headache now.Update dads angiogram results came back! His one artery is accluted (completely collapsed) he’s not worried about it since that area of the brain is friend from the stroke anyways. The other artery they were worried about is ok for now. He has to stop and or cut significantly down on smoking. He has to cut back on alcohol consumption. But the great news no surgery! And he is going to a regular room today! He also has the clear to completely leave the hospital and go to in patient rehab for about 10 days! Great news! Thanks everybody that has been worried and concerned! Things are looking up. Even though he still has a long journey things are looking up for him! If you can please help I hate to ask but he’s still got bills coming in.
Thursday: He was moved from ICU to a regular room. His walking is slowly improving. Will be a long while, till he’s walking normal.
Friday: Dads going to Rehab! Discharging from hospital and into his rehab facility so he will hopefully be able to get all his movement back.
