Junior Hamilton's Long road to recovery.
Donation protected
I never thought I'd ever find myself making a fundraiser on GoFundMe, but my father needs your help more than ever.
My name is Ashley Hamilton and I am holding this fundraiser on behalf of my father, Junior Hamilton, who has become critically ill over the past 21 days.
3 weeks ago, my dad's quality of life took an drastic turn for the worse. He admitted himself into hospital after feeling unwell, only to be diagnosed with a "Staph infection" that ran through his blood stream. The infection affected all internal organs, tissues, muscles, blood vessels and arteries. The infection immediately attached itself, and contaminated his heart, which then housed the bacteria, so it could continue to grow and flourish within him, leaving no part of his internal being untouched.
Due to this extreme, and aggressive infection, my father entered a state of sepsis, and had to undergo immediate heart surgery to replace/repair his Aortic valve (blood pumping valve) and also his Aorta (blood flowing tube).
Though chances were pretty grim with him pulling through open heart surgery, he beat all odds and is recovering like the champion he is. Unfortunately, the battle isn't over yet, as he has to undergo another surgery that is a side affect from being in sepsis.
Being in sepsis, blood flow was restricted to my father's feet, due to the bacteria in his heart dislodging itself, clogging his blood vessels to his feet. From the lack of blood supply for far to long, my father now has to undergo a double leg amputation to remove the decayed portion of his body.
We are all devastated. This all has happened at an alarming rate, that has blindsided myself, my family but more importantly, my father. We have had little time to process this overload of information and heartache.
If anyone knows my dad personally, they know he is a family man, who hasn't missed a day of work in his 62 years of being on earth. There isn't much that keeps this man down, but he has an incredibly long recovery ahead, where he will be off work until further notice. My father is a truck driver (log hauler) and because of this whole ordeal, the likely hood of him getting behind the wheel of a big rig again, is slim to none.
But for now we move forward and onward over the next big hurdle which is recovery. Not only does he still have to recover from his heart surgery he recieved last week, but he now will need to be rehabilitated to learn how walk, balance, and how to cope with limb loss.
Without further ado, I am here to ask the public for help. On behalf of my family and I, we are pleading with you to please consider donating to help cover the costs of life, medical expenses (no health insurance) and hopefully prosthetics. I am trying my best to help my dad recover without the financial burdens of everyday life, and to acquire a sense of quality of life back.
He is a born and raised citizen of small town Nine Mile River, Hants Co, NS, but is a resident of Grande Prairie AB. Due to the severity of his condition, he was life flighted to the U of A hospital in Edmonton, AB, where he will stay until his recovery is complete.
No donation is too big or too small, any amount is appreciated. If you're unable to donate, please considered sharing this page with your friends and family, public forums and community groups. Every bit counts folks. Thank you for taking the time to read this lengthy explanation of my father's hardships, and I appreciate anything and everything you can do to help.
From a very concerned, and overwhelmed daughter, I thank you.
