June's Journey

June is my Aunty. She was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer in June 2015.
After initial diagnosis, she underwent surgery and chemotherapy. Her oncologist said she would be a good candidate for peritonectomy which could save her life.
She flew to Sydney in March 2016 and underwent testing to check her PCI (Peritonectomy Cancer Index) which needed to be below 15 for her to be a candidate for the surgery. The result was 15!!
She then flew back home to await the call for surgery go-ahead.
More than 4 weeks later, the call came. She flew back to Sydney where she was re-tested for the PCI. This is when the story becomes one of a huge fight to be fought....
The level came back as 18. She was no longer a candidate for surgery. In that 4 weeks of waiting, the cancer had spread. She was now faced with a death sentence with an uncertain time limit.
If she had been sent to the surgeons in Sydney sooner, she had a high chance of curability.
Now after months of chemotherapy and many ups and downs (her daughter gave birth to Tasmania's youngest surviving premature baby born at 26 weeks, the death of her youngest sister, the death of one of her nephews, side effects of chemo - sickness, pain, skin toxicity, too many other side effects to name here and the fact she now faced a time limit with her beloved family), this incredible woman continues to smile and joke and inspire others.
By chance, we have found another doctor who quite possibly could provide us with new hope. Unfortunately he is based in Kuala Lumpur and the treatment is not available in Australia. It is costly.
Dr Bill Paspaliaris runs a stem cell research company and he provides an alternative for treating cancer patients.
June met with him in Melbourne (again, by chance as he was only there visiting family!)
Luck has been pulled towards us giving June the chance to talk to this amazing doctor and we desperately need to raise funds to get her treated in Malaysia.
We know he can work miracles as he treated the husband of a family friend who had stage 4 bone cancer and is now cured!
Funding for this treatment will also allow us to make people more aware that there is more treatment out there and and to spread awareness of bowel health and how treatment and early diagnosis can save lives.
