June came into our lives as a puppy and quickly became my best friend. We have been inseparable ever since. June has not had it easy. In 2019 she became paralyzed overnight due to a ruptured disk and had to have spinal surgery. Then 3 months later she had to have surgery again which is a one in a million situation. She has fully recovered from her spinal surgeries and can walk! This past April we noticed she was bumping into things and she has now completely lost her vision. But she is still the same happy, goofy, life loving dog we have known for almost 10 years.
A little over a month ago we noticed that June’s left side of her skull was sunken in. We immediately made an appointment with the neurologist who had performed her spinal surgeries for an MRI. It wasn’t great news. We were devastated to learn our Junebug was suffering from a trigeminal nerve sheath tumor, most likely a sarcoma. Good news is that this type of tumor is slow growing. Bad news is there is no cure. What we can do and what we would like to do is stereotactic radiation therapy. This is targeted radiation that will hopefully increase June’s lifespan and prevent early onset of symptoms such as seizures, additional muscle wasting and the loss of the ability to chew.
Our girl has been through so much and we want to allow her to live out her golden years pain and symptom free if possible. The plan of action is a full body CT scan to rule out any additional disease or health problems , another more detailed MRI and then 3-4 targeted radiation treatments. This has been quoted at a price of around $10,500. This plan may change based on the test results but we believe this is most likely to be our course of action. We are at one of the best radiation centers around at NC State Veterinary Oncology. We have heard nothing but positive things about them and after our Zoom consult today we feel very comfortable leaving June’s treatment in their hands.
We are lucky enough to have had family and credit to pay for June’s prior surgeries but in order to move forward with this treatment we unfortunately need help this time around. The dog loving community is strong and I have seen miracles happen. I’m asking for a little slice of miracle to hopefully come our way ❤️ Donate if you can , share and send all the good vibes our way.
