Withstanding a lot of change in the past several months professionally, I am seeking to take advantage of numerous opportunities presented before me and to create a sound financial foundation to allow me to give back to the field that has given me so much
In April 2019, I began the process of establishing a new initiative based on my original research - CREATIVE GENERATION. This project is committed to inspire, connect, and amplify the work of organizations and individuals who are committed to cultivating the creative capacities of the next generation.
Generation C, a term taken from consumer marketing, is used to describe an intergenerational group of people who care deeply about creativity, culture, connection, and community. My research explores the term and its use within the arts, culture, and education sectors and seeks to answer the question: How do artists, educators, and community leaders effectively cultivate the creative capacities in the next generation?
My work has been picked up by several publications and I have been invited to present several places around the country and even two opportunities abroad (including from the mainstage of the World Alliance on Arts Education in Frankfurt, Germany in October!).
I am doing my best to capitalize on the opportunities that are being presented to me through my several consulting, speaking, and research projects at the moment. By conducting research, documenting impact from organizations and individuals across the country and around the globe, and telling the story through an online campaign, I hope to engage our field in new and innovative ways to think about our work.
Through all of this work, I want to explore three questions: 1.) How can young people be supported in the pursuit of creative community action? 2.) How can adults - such as artists, educators, and community leaders - be supported in their work supporting the development of young people as catalysts for creative community action? And lastly, 3.) How can both young people and adults who are committed to creative community action, navigate the strict systems which govern their work?
Throughout this effort, I will engage in a community-based participatory research approach to interrogate the my research questions within the realm of practice among adults and youth in the U.S and abroad. Propositions towards practice will be posed and further interrogated through a series of community gatherings held in 6 cities in the U.S. and abroad. Conclusions will then be drawn illuminating key concepts which amplify the work of individuals and organizations committed to cultivating the creative capacities of young people.
I hope to utilize this work to launch a website, blog, podcast and research publications.
