We are Melvyn and Debbie Jaramillo and our son is Julius Jaramillo. Julius is 8 years old, attends school at Alcalde Elementary and is in the 2nd grade. Julius is a happy, fun, smart and loving little boy. He rules our world. And if you know us, you know Julius is King! But he has a problem, it’s his little heart. I will share his story with you.
Julius was born with Recombinant 8 syndrome which is a syndrome that caused all of his health issues. Julius was born with a broken little heart, kidney, and liver and tethered cord issues. His tethered cord issue was repaired when he was 3 months old and his kidney reflux was repaired at 9 months old.
Unfortunately, Julius has a heart defect called Truncus Arteriosus and will require multiple surgeries to help him have a working little heart. Julius was flown to Lucille Packard Children’s Hospital in Stanford California and had open heart surgery (OHS) at 10 days old. He needed to have a conduit placed in his heart, because he was born without a valve. Four years later he needed another OHS to replace the conduit, again in Stanford CA. This one is supposed to last him til he is about 15 years old, and it has so far, but because of the previous surgeries, it has created some scar tissue that is now obstructing blood flow in the lower part of the heart, which is causing his left heart to work harder, which in turn makes his little heart stiff. We were informed last week that he requires intervention AGAIN. This is OHS #3!
Melvyn is a stay home dad that dedicates 100% of his time to Julius and his needs, while I work at LANL. I have no vacation or sick leave as I use all my sick and vacation for all of Julius' medical appointments. We have started this page to help us while I am out of work. We also leave behind the rest of our children at home as they attend school and work. If you can help, we truly appreciate it from the bottom of our hearts. Anything helps. The money that we raise will be used for any travel and medical expense. But most of all, we ask you all for your prayers for Julius and his family. We are true believers in prayer.
