Julius, a care free, life loving, and energetic 3 year old boy was playing like any other typical boy his age, rough housing around with his 5 and 7 year old brothers. One day, Julius' behavior began to slowly change. He started to become increasingly tired, losing his appetite, and one day becoming weak , sleeping all day with a low grade fever.
On that day, it was assumed like any parent would think, that Julius was coming down with a bug or caught something viral from friends. Julius was just at his pediatrician 2 days prior to have blood work done to see why he was having symptoms and nothing showed in his laboratory results but low iron level. He was prescribed iron supplementation but the following 2 days he just seemed even more tired with no appetite at all. Julius wanted to lie in bed and do nothing. It was thought that giving Julius his iron supplement would perk him up a little, but it seemed to not do anything.
As Julius was laying in the bed, mom noticed his breathing looked very fast paced. When checking his belly and chest for breathing patterns, mom stumbled upon a feeling of hardness on the right side of his abdomen. It did not feel normal at all and he was quickly brought to the hospital where an ultrasound was done and a mass on his right liver was discovered. It took a few weeks, and 2 biopsies to find out the worse news a parent could ever hear. Julius was diagnosed with stage 2/3 intermediate hepatoblastoma.
Julius is now undergoing chemotherapy and will eventually need either a liver resection or liver transplant depending on how the cancerous tumor responds to treatment. He will be traveling outside of his home state for other future surgeries/treatments. Due to current treatments, travel, ongoing appointments, and extensive hospital stays, the family can use some financial assistance. Mom is not able to work at the moment due to caring and being by Julius' side every waking moment. The family would appreciate any donation to support the heightened expenses needed at this unexpected, and unforseen time. Anything is appreciated.
