Julius Magno’s Quest for Recovery
Donation protected
On Tuesday, February 16, at 2:00 a.m., my mother was awakened by my brother Julius’ cries for help. My mother found Julius in our living room in a fetal position, motionless and pale. Immediately, my brother Dexter sought help from a nearby barangay (community council), requesting use of their ambulance service to rush my brother to a nearby hospital. But the first hospital in Caloocan City was full, then another hospital in Quezon City also was full.
Because hospitals had run out of beds due to COVID-19, it took Dexter 12 hours to finally find a hospital in Valenzuela, that could admit him. On his first day there, he was given IV fluid. That same day, we learned that his first hospital bill was a staggering 70,000 Philippine pesos, even though he had not yet been seen by a doctor nor had his illness been diagnosed. On his second day, my sister, who lives in Sweden, and I decided to move Julius to another hospital to get proper attention and hoping for a smaller hospital fee, even though we still needed to pay his first hospital bill.
Julius is now confined at the National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI) of the Philippines. He has been at NKTI for more than a month—since February 18. The doctors have diagnosed his illness as ACUTE PANCREATITIS. Many medical procedures have been performed on Julius in the ICU of NKTI to stop what the doctors call pancreatic pseudocyst, or the collection of fluid in his pancreas and nearby organs.
We are sharing my brother’s story because we are hoping for his recovery. My brother has four kids and a wife, Joan Montes.
We all love Julius as he inspires kids in our neighborhood and has been taking good care of my aging parents.
Three different doctors are treating my brother and providing for his medical needs despite the fact that we have not yet paid their professional fees.
Julius’ current hospital bill already reaches $20,000, including the professional fees of the doctors in the hospital and all of his medications.
My sister and I, who are working abroad, already have exhausted our own financial resources; we never have stopped sending money back home since COVID-19 hit and affected our family.
The effects of Julius’ illness are devastating to us and his family. But, with your help to ease the financial burden and resultant stress, our family will recover.
Our goal is to raise the entire $20,000 to pay the doctors’ professional fees and the remaining balance in the hospital.
My brother is currently unemployed due to COVID and is residing at my parents’ home in Camarin, Caloocan City, Philippines.
Any amount that you can provide for his hospital bill will be greatly appreciated.
We are hoping for your kind consideration. God Bless and More Power!
