A taxi for Julio
Donation protected
In our busy lives, we may be lucky enough to meet a person that reminds us of what is important.
This is Julio Tovar. For 6 years , Julio has helped our medical mission and hundreds of others in the San Miguel-Guanajuato area. He is a one man operation trying to make it in a rustic, corrupt and challenging environment. He and his family live in a simple small home, but do not hesitate to do what they can for others and never ask for more. He has selflessly helped us coordinate with local orphanages, finding resources for us to provide shoes/supplies for children, reaching out to indigent patients in outlying villages and provides reliable/safe transportation for our volunteers with the Texas Podiatric Medical Foundation ( www.txpmf.org). He speaks English and although not part of the taxi service, he will also translate for 10 hours a day , get food, medicine ,crutches or whatever needed. Now he needs help to continue his taxi service.
Having a small business in Mexico business is very different from the US. There is no safe or normal financing with "0 down" option. Reliable, used vehicles that the government will permit for independent taxi are hard to find. Julio needs a new suburban to continue his business. After 2 years, he has found a reliable, used vehicle with a government permit but he needs help to raise half of the cost which is $15,000us. New suburban type vehicles that meet Mexico emissions and permitting can run over $70,000us. That option is not possible for a small , independent taxi man.
His current vehicle has broken down and can not be repaired.
In return for larger donations , he will provide taxi service for you if you visit the Guanajuato- Leon/San Miguel region. Other transportation can be arranged.
For me, I see how spoiled we all are here and want to try to help make a difference for someone that is a hard worker living in a challenging country that helps others even if he has very little.
Instead of buying our nephews their millionth toy or going out to eat for the 8th time this month, we are committing funds for Julio's Taxi Project.
Please think about it, and donate what you can by December 5. All funds will be wired direct for the vehicle. Minimum donation is $5. Any thing will be a help.
Happy Fall and Thank You for considering Julio.
