My name is Tyler Saldanha, I am 26 years old and am my father's only child. It is with a heavy heart that I write this. Over the weekend my father, Julio Cesar Saldanha, passed away suddenly in his home at the young age of 58. This GoFundMe is set up to help pay for funeral costs, extensive medical bills, legal fees, and to ensure our puppies can be properly taken care of.
Taken too soon, Julio was a charismatic man, often known to be the ham of the group by his friends and coworkers. Above all, he was a devoted father and made sure my mother and I had everything we needed to thrive. He had a soft spot for animals and children. Having seen first hand how poorly some people treat others, he began a career in law enforcement to help those in need; a passion he had since he was a teenager. His career spanned over 20 years until his retirement in 2018. He was highly regarded for the quality of his work and was able to help many people over his fulfilling career.
In 2016, my mother, Kathleen Saldanha, passed away from a horrible form of cancer known as sarcomatoid renal cell carcinoma. Our world was turned upside-down as her diagnosis came as a complete surprise and treatments were very brutal for her. My parents were together for over 30 years, having met at a high school party back in Miami. They were each others' rock. After my mom passed, it completely broke my father's heart. He started having many health issues over the next couple years, brought on as a result of the extreme stresses of her treatments and of losing his beloved wife. He was in and out of the hospital and doctors' offices dealing with his health, but he always kept his upbeat attitude and positive outlook on life, even in the face of all he dealt with.
In 2018 he retired to focus on regaining his health and to enjoy his time by fishing and watching movies. He had many health scares during the last few years; but overall, he appeared to be getting better. By mid-2019 it seemed as if he regained a good portion of his health. This all changed over the last few months where his health suddenly took a sharp turn for the worst. Even given his sharp decline in health, nobody expected him to pass as soon as he did. It came suddenly and unexpectedly. I'm sure many of you are just as shocked as I am to have found out he passed.
For those of you who know us, you'll know our family had two adorable Golden Retrievers; Cody and Riley. I want to let you know they are safe and will be coming home with me so they can be cared for. The poor little things have had to deal with so much losing their mom and dad. I have taken them to the vet and they are healthy. They will just need some love and time to heal. Any help during this time would be greatly appreciated. I will be providing information on service arrangements once I have more info. Services are likely to be held in Tallahassee.
