Julie's Life-Saving Transplant Fundraiser

Please Help Us Support Julie’s Life-Saving Lung Transplant Journey

Dear Friends, Family, Community, and Kind-Hearted Strangers,

Thank you for taking time out of your busy day to read Julie’s fundraising page.

We are reaching out on behalf of Julie, a beloved family member who is facing a life-threatening medical challenge. Julie has been diagnosed with emphysema, and COPD, and a lung transplant is her only hope for a healthier, longer life with the family and friends she loves dearly. If she is not able to get this life-saving surgery, her life expectancy will be shortened to only 4-5 years.

Insurance may cover a percentage of the medical procedure, but it doesn’t account for the overwhelming costs associated with relocating, travel, or living expenses during this journey. Lung transplant recipients are often required to move closer to a specialized transplant center for months before and after surgery to ensure the best chance of success.
After discharge from the hospital, Julie and her care team are required to stay within close proximity to the hospital for a minimum of 4 weeks. That at least one of her support people will need to stay with her 24 hours a day during this time.

These costs include:

·         Relocation Expenses: Julie and her care team will need to relocate for several months. The first year after a transplant is crucial.

·         Travel Costs: Ongoing trips for medical appointments, evaluations, and post-surgery care. This will include not only the cost of gas but also the wear and tear on a vehicle. There will also be many appointments even when it is safe to return home.

·         Living Expenses: Covering day-to-day needs while away from home for herself and her care team, including, but not limited to, food and transportation.

·         Support for Caregivers: Her care team does need to be with her so everyone involved needs to relocate as well. We must have a plan in place for them to be comfortable proceeding the transplant.

·         Medical Supplies: gloves, masks, iodine, dressings, tape, etc. When she leaves the hospital, her dressing should be changed at least once a day until it is healed (about 2-4 weeks after surgery). A nurse will give her a 3-day supply of dressings to place over the incision. Anything more and she, and her care team will have to purchase them from a local drug store.

We have set a goal of [50,000] to help lighten these financial burdens, allowing Julie to focus fully on her health and recovery. Every donation, no matter how small, makes a difference in ensuring that she has the best possible chance at a new lease on life.

Your generosity will not only provide financial relief but also serve as a powerful reminder to Julie that she is surrounded by love and support.
If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this fundraiser with your networks and social media or keeping her in your thoughts and prayers.

Together, we can give Julie the hope and strength she needs during this critical time. Thank you for standing with us and making a difference.

With heartfelt gratitude,
Amy
