Julie's Battle to Beat Brain Cancer

For those who do not know Julie, she is the strong-willed, full-of-energy, free-spirited beautiful young woman in the pictures. Julie and Michael McGuinness were married on March 12, 2017, under the last full moon before the vernal equinox.

Since the beginning, Julie and Michael have been no strangers to struggle, having lost Michael’s father and their son Orion in their first year of marriage. As if this was not enough for the young couple, Julie was diagnosed with malignant brain cancer in Okinawa, Japan on October 12, 2020, while stationed there with the United States Air Force. She received emergent brain surgery, and the family was medically evacuated to San Antonio, Texas for continued care.

Julie persevered through cancer treatment and Covid to a “cancer-free” diagnosis in 2022- the family exited the military and took a job in Nashville, TN. They lost medical coverage 3 days after Michael's separation from service. Julie and Michael were informed on January 21, 2023, that Julie’s brain cancer had returned, is much more aggressive and is inoperable. Julie has Medicare but it only covers 80% of treatment- 20% of cancer treatment is a significant amount. As a 34-year-old wife and mother, this is a harsh reality to accept and their future is uncertain.

Her doctor is recommending MD Anderson in Houston as her best option. As you can imagine moving from Tennessee to Texas will be very costly. Julie's cancer has left her partially blind with cognitive and mobility limitations making it impossible to be alone. Michael has taken a leave of absence from his job to be available at home full-time.

This fund is set up to help with their present financial challenges and any unforeseen complications that may arise. Many of you know Julie and Michael and the tremendous spirits that they are. Truly, there is not a family more deserving of your help.
