Julie's Cancer Treatment
Donation protected
Hi Everyone,
Thank you for taking the time to check out this page. For those of you that know my brother Ryan, this may come as a huge shock to find out that his wife, Julie, has recently been diagnosed with breast cancer (invasive ductal carcinoma). Julie has been a part of my family for over 10 years and is more a true sister than just a sister-in-law. This is earth shattering news for them both, with Julie just turning 29 years old.
During a self breast exam, Julie found what she thought felt like a lump. She visited her primary care physician, who was not all that concerned due to her age, but referred her to a specialist just in case. She had an ultrasound done and that's when the concern began; every woman's worst nightmare. Biopsies, more ultrasounds, and a MRI later, and here they are today, facing this reality.
They've met with some really amazing Doctors, are building a plan of care, and are ready to attack this head on! As you all know, even with insurance coverage, the cost for a cancer diagnosis is a tremendous drain on personal finances. Some of what they will have to do won't be covered by insurance. They will have surgery costs, chemotherapy, hormone therapy, radiation, and fertility preservation. The fertility preservation in particular is not something covered by insurance (and is quite expensive out of pocket). Its a priceless safety net for Julie and Ryan to still be able to have children some day. Julie's treatments will pose a severe risk to her fertility at her young age. In addition, Julie may have to miss significant time from work to recover from surgery and go through her various treatments.
A cancer diagnosis alone is one of the most stressful and scary moments anyone could go through. Everyone reading this knows a family member, a friend, themselves that has had to battle this terrible disease. You can't do it alone! I wanted to make this page, with the permission of Julie and Ryan, to at least help with the financial stress of this journey. I've set a pretty lofty goal, but the goal itself doesn't matter because every donation helps, big or small. If you can't donate, that's okay too, maybe say a pray or think of them, I know it would mean a lot.
Here are some of the things your donation will help with:
- Surgery, recovery and associated costs (Julie is having bilateral mastectomies)
- Chemotherapy and medications (could be as long as 6 months)
- Hormone therapy (5 years)
- Radiation therapy
- Fertility preservation (not covered by insurance)
- Peace of mind
I will be updating this page as Julie progresses through her treatments. So feel free to check periodically to help support these 2 love birds through this tough journey.
