Julie Hellyer's Healing Fund

Julie is someone who has always been on the go and has taken every opportunity to explore new places and things. She has been passionate in her roles in the hospitality industry and has embraced and inspired people from different countries to reach for the stars to have a better life. Smiles, a dose of humor and sense of adventure are part of her repertoire. Looking for a change of scenery, Julie moved solo to Las Vegas in 2017, to continue her role in the hotel industry as Director of Housekeeping. In true Julie fashion, she spread her wings going to concerts, exploring the new frontier, and forging new friendships. On July 5, 2019 Julie went to Urgent Care for a persistent cough. Thinking it was a summer cold, which we all have battled, imagine her surprise when instead of prescribing an antibiotic, she was diagnosed with Stage 4 non-small cell lung cancer. As a non-smoker, the diagnosis was devastating and has led to a total of 71 nights in the hospital since July. After pursuing numerous non-invasive treatments, her team of doctors decided surgery was necessary. Julie entered the hospital in late November. The successful surgery to inflate her right lung resulted in 35 days in the hospital and rehab. Julie is a vivacious friend and warrior who is determined to beat this horrible disease. Julie has not worked since July 5th and is not able to work as she recovers now at home. She faces a mountain of medical bills: hospital bills, medication expenses, transportation costs and out-patient physical therapy. She still needs to meet her everyday expenses, as well.
