Our next challenge: Rhys on the Richard Burton 10k!

Following the incredible success of the Julie Owen 10s Festival, which enabled us to donate £12,000 to The Brain Tumour Charity, our fundraising continues.

In November, Rhys Williams will take on the notoriously tough Richard Burton 10k memory of Julie. His dad, Chris ‘Festa’ Williams, was a key member of the festival committee, so it feels particularly special that he has chosen to continue what we started.

Every donation made from this point will support his 10K challenge and will be donated to The Brain Tumour Charity in Julie’s memory.

HOW IT ALL STARTED - The 2026 Julie Owen’s 10s Festival

More than a tournament. A legacy in motion.

This isn’t just a rugby tournament. This is something far bigger. This is about love, legacy, and purpose.

This is Julie Owen’s story and the fight to make sure no other family has to go through what we did.

About Julie
Our mam wasn’t just a rugby supporter. She was the kind of person who showed up for everyone. Rugby was a huge part of our lives but her impact went far beyond the pitch. Whether you played, watched, or just walked through our front door, you felt it.

She stood on the sidelines in all weather, not just supporting Michael, but anyone wearing that shirt. Julie wasn’t just there on her own she and Dai, our dad, did everything together. They travelled the country side by side, following rugby, supporting not just Michael but so many others along the way. Rain or shine, home or away, they were there together a constant presence on the sidelines and in people’s lives.

To Michael’s teammates, she became a second mum.
To our friends, she became family.
To Dai, Sarah-Jayne and Michael, she was everything.

And that’s what made it so special, it was never just about the game. It was about family, about community, and about showing up for people together. And off the pitch, they built a home that became a safe place for so many a place full of warmth, laughter, and people who always felt they belonged.

Then everything changed.

What started as headaches and small lapses in memory quickly became something far more serious. A seizure led to a diagnosis that we were simply not prepared for:

Glioblastoma. Grade 4. Inoperable. Untreatable. Terminal.

Julie made a decision that defined her as much in illness as it had in life. She chose to “go with the flow”, her lifelong mantra, declining treatment so she could make the most of the time she had left.

We brought her home and cared for her ourselves. We laughed, we cried, and we made every single moment count.

Those months were the hardest of our lives, but they also showed us exactly who she was - strong, selfless, and full of love.

Why This Matters

Julie’s death has left a void that can never be filled, but it has given us purpose. No family should have to face this disease the way we did.

Glioblastoma is aggressive, relentless and devastating. Survival rates remain desperately low, with less than 10% surviving longer than 5 years. Research is severely underfunded and prevention is unknown.

That has to change.

Our Mission

The Julie Owen 10s Festival exists to:

- Bring people together through rugby and community
- Honour Julie’s life and legacy
- Raise vital funds for glioblastoma research
- Build something that grows year after year

This festival is something we are building together to honour the woman who shaped us as a family.

We are partnering with the Brain Tumour Charity to raise vital funds for further research into tackling this disease.

Join us on 22nd August in Tiverton Rugby Club for an epic day of rugby and to support this brilliant cause.
