Hi my name is Julie Spratt and I’m fundraising with a hope to be able to purchase a specialized scooter.

I have a really s@#tty illness that limits my energy on a minute to minute basis. My mitochondria don’t work well; or in some cases not at all so I am always working with a faulty battery for energy.

My diagnoses are myalgic encephaolmyelitis, POTS, autonomic dysfunction and Mast Cell Activation Syndrome. I have an ileostomy to treat intestinal failure because I couldn’t make enough energy to power my gut.

I was in my former life non stop top shelf cardiovascular intensive care nurse at St Mary’s Hospital in Kitchener for 20 years but now I’m unreliable even in taking care of myself.

My batteries don’t care. They run inconsistently and drain way to fast. Any energy expenditure costs and I have to payback with interest. It really stinks.

But I live in the beautiful town of Paris and I would really love to be able to see it first hand. So many trails I want to scoot through, scooting through ithe beautiful town, enjoying some life again. We’ve been here 3 years and I haven’t had the right vehicle to get me to these experiences. And yes Assistive Device Program has helped with a wheelchair and power wheelchair with full body support. But the limitations are firstly, only every 5 years and secondly I need mobility support from a walker to a wheelchair to portable motorized travel wheelchair to a scooter to a supportive power chair because my disease process is so s#@tty and unpredictable. It makes me need all the options. We’ve had to pay full price for 2 of the them so far due to the 5 year limit. I would so love it if you could help me out of this bedroom, out of this house, just to be able to scoot the town, the trails, and my own backyard. It would mean the world to me.
