Julie Lockney is one of the kindest, strongest, sweetest, God-fearing, most amazing women I’ve ever known. She is a loving mother to 2 great, respectful, handsome young boys- Theodore, 11, and Dallas, 8. She’s been a devoted, supportive wife to her husband, Don Lockney for over 10 years now. She is one of those people you meet and instantly know she’ll be a great friend forever. Unfortunately, her “forever” is ending here on earth sooner than anyone could have expected.
On August 1, 2022 Julie was diagnosed with stage 4 colorectal cancer at St. Mary’s hospital. As it is for anyone who has received that horrific type of news, it was total shock and disbelief for the whole family.
After undergoing multiple new trial treatments in the beginning and eventually moving towards conventional cancer treatments with MCV’s Massey Cancer Center over the past year and a half, it was to no avail. Sadly, in January of this year, they were told there was nothing left the doctors could do for her. She was handed a terminal diagnosis and sent home on hospice at the beginning of March with very little time left here with her family and friends. As you can imagine, this has been a huge change and so shocking for all of them.
Don and the boys have been by her side throughout it all. Theo and Dallas are both homeschooled and Don has been out of work completely for the past few months trying to stay by her side and take care of her as well as their two children. It’s been extremely hard on him as well, if you can only imagine. Prior to that, he was only sporadically able to work in between appointments, treatments, the boys needs, and obviously just the rough days in general for them all over the past year and 8 months. His was the only source of income for their family. They have dwindled savings and are now taking on so much debt trying to take care of the boys needs and keeping Julie comfortable through hospice before she gets called home. Medical bills have racked up, home and housing expenses will soon get behind, schooling must be paid, food, gas, the boys soccer programs, medications, etc. the list goes on and on.
This family not only truly needs our help, but they also surely deserve it. No one should ever have to go through anything like this. Especially not the Lockneys. They are members of Liberty Baptist Church and are heavily involved in programs and events with their church family. Both boys regularly attend youth group and Kids Blast each week. They are all such wonderful human beings. If anyone ever asks Julie what it is she may need- she will always only answer with PRAYERS! She loves her God and knows she will be free of this pain and with him soon. As her time with us here on earth is dwindling fast according to the doctors, her absolute biggest fear is leaving her boys and husband behind without the means and financial stability to continue living this life without her.
I am asking for anyone who feels touched by their story to donate whatever you can afford to this fund for them. If you are unable to donate- please share this and spread her story so that others could possibly help out. And PRAY. Pray all the prayers. Pray for her. Pray for Don and the boys. Pray for strength and peace and comfort as she transitions to being home with the Lord. Pray for God to be with them all through this awful, sad time in their lives.
PRAYERS FOR THE LOCKNEYS.
