Julie Hall Desperate fight to stay in Australia.

Message from Ulla Greenwood:

Many of us know Julie Hall and we love the contribution she has made to our Whippet world over many years. Her smiling face, her uplifting character, and her absolute love of her 2 Whippet girls, Gr. Neut. Ch. Calahorra Sun Lizard ET “Daisy” and Ch. Chakrata Polly Wheresya Dolly JC “Roxy” and her pet chickens Truffle and Lolita have been constants.

However, many may not know that Julie has had a huge concern over the last number of years. Julie is from the UK and she made Australia home 13 years ago, in 2010. Julie had been a very successful Triathlon competitor internationally. She has brought those considerable skills to her triathlete coaching career, firstly to the Gold Coast and for the last year in Darwin. Julie has always worked, paid her taxes & supported herself. Julie is also the first person to put her hand up to help anyone, particularly those less fortunate than herself. Over these 13 years Julie has had several different visas and she has spent tens of thousands of dollars on applications for these visas and legal representation to try to achieve Australian residency.

Julie was advised to apply for a Distinguished Talent Visa and this was lodged in January 2019. This Visa application was refused on 16 October 2020. She then sought a Merits Review of this decision.

About a year ago Julie had the opportunity to take up a Triathlon coaching position with Triathlon NT. So, she packed up the car with Daisy, Roxy, Truffle and Lolita and her possessions and did the epic drive from the Gold Coast to Darwin where they are now settled.

The appeal on the original decision has now been set down for a hearing by the Administrative Appeals Tribunal in Brisbane on 3rd November 2023. If this Merits Review is unsuccessful Julie will have just 35 days to leave the country. We don’t want to see that happen.

Andrew and I have arranged for a top migration law firm to represent Julie and to undertake the first stage of work. But there will be a further discounted amount of $8,800 for these lawyers to take the matter through to a hearing. An adjournment of about a month will be sought to allow the best presentation of her case.

As you can imagine, this whole process has drained Julie’s resources. Her original GoFundMe page was well supported, thank you. This money paid for her current visa application & legal representation up to now. I know that the general dog world and in particular, the Whippet fraternity look after their own so I am hoping that you will all support this worthy GoFundMe campaign again. It’s important to get this out to our wider dog community so please share this post.
