Lava Flow Rescue for Julie Conner

MAY 4th 2018 ... An earthquake of 6.9 shook Big Island of Hawaii as there were reports of Lava flowing in a neighborhood only one mile from Julie Conners Home... Julie was in the process of bringing her beautiful Appaloosa Horses off property to safety from the lava flow  when the mandatory evacuation began... what unfolded was,  and continues  to be... a real life story of an incredibly strong and beautiful  woman facing a natural disaster  of a volcanic eruption in Puna Hawaii.  What follows is the account of my dearest Sister-friends Journey.   Our hearts are held suspended as we take this sacred pause, allowing Pele to make her way!  Still in shock trauma myself, having lived on this land with Julie...with these generous donations Julie, can think about finding a new home.  It can never replace her losses, but it is a start for a new beginning.    I carry her story forward ....



JULIE .... "I can’t believe how much is changed in the last two days since I last posted. I’ve been waiting, hoping & praying that the information I had could be wrong... until I received the photo of an aerial flyover and found my place engulfed in lava... Most of my neighbors, engulfed in lava also or so blocked off who knows when they would ever be able to get to their farms or what is left of them. We cherished our farms, we were very good stewards of the land, our farms loved us, provided for us, living with the sun and the rain and the earth as gently as possible. our farms were our livelihood, ‘our lives’
I am mourning, not just for myself, for all my beautiful neighbors, my ohana, and they’re beautiful farms, and my beautiful community, devastated, shattered...I am sickened from this... I feel shattered, I am mourning, I am grieving,
I want to share my heart with you who love me...this is what I’m going through, things can only get better. I’m with my sister in SoCal, and will be headed to the North country for a few weeks. Maybe this life was really too good to be true...17 years of infrastructure...so sweet, sleep and dream...sunrises, moon rises, birds singing, coqui frogs singing, the most gentle sweet breezes ever imagined

~ 17 YEARS ... Julie began her farm on an 8 acre slice of heaven upon Pohoiki in a little tent... planting her gardens and building structures to welcome her family to share her dream of living in Paradise!  

Through hard work and dedication, over the years, she accomplished creating an amazing place where horses danced the ocean horizon and when people visited they felt welcomed and inspired!!!    WANA'AO AINA 

Her hope was to retire with the land supporting her, and others,  who wished to share in a sustAINAble lifestyle.   Her dream was  only beginning to be in full process and many of the finishing touches were just completed merely months prior to this devastation we are witnessing.    

May 1st, 2018... 

Over time, other neighbors began to arrive and build their homes around Julie!  Wonderful folks who are like-hearted.  Julie said it best above in the moment of recognition.  

All in their neighborhood of farmsteads are united! Most have lost their entire farms to date!  In the truth of Impermanence and sustAINAbility, we are taught Kuleana (Responsibility). It is Our Ability to Respond that sets us apart as individuals. Julie has always handled her Personal Responsibilities in an empowering way, overcoming Great obstacles of life, while inspiring others and teaching others to be better people, to tend the Earth and plant for Our Future Generations... all the while having a smile and a twinkle in her eye!
