My name is Julia Kenitzer, and I was caught off guard by Stage 4 Metastatic terminal renal cancer around the 1st of March. One day I was at work; days later, I was at the hospital for the first of three times. I am currently receiving immunotherapy treatments to try and slow the progression and give me time with my family. I've also had spot radiation treatments for brain tumors. My insurance ran out on June 30th, and I've applied for Medicaid and Social Security, but both are a long time coming. I've received some amazing and generous help from family, friends, and Mercy Hospital here in St. Louis, but things are growing ever more complicated, and our financial situation (my son lives with me and is caring for me) is in pretty dire straits. We no longer have assistance paying bills - funding has run out - or getting help for basic necessities and the medical bills & prescriptions I am responsible for. This is the last situation I would ever want to be in or put him through. I did not plan well, obviously, and it's asking a lot of my friends or anyone that might be out there that's listening.
