My brother Julian has been in the OHSU Neuro ICU since the night of December 23, 2022 and has made some slow, but positive progress over the past week. Doctors are still closely monitoring him with unfortunately no answers at the moment to what can be causing this.
He is now fully awake, is able to speak, and is mostly able to breathe on his own. The doctors still have him on an oxygen mask to control his breathing, but it is much better than the ventilator! However he is expected to be hospitalized for quite some time.
On Saturday the doctors found fluid in his lungs, so they drained about 1.5 liters of fluid from his lungs to help with his breathing. It is also suspected that Julian may have some internal bleeding because his red blood cell count is very low. An endoscopy will be done to look closer into it the possible bleeding.
Above all else, we are incredibly thankful for the progress that has been made. Julian is staying positive, and knows that he is at the best place here at OHSU.
Thank you everyone for all the kind words & prayers. It is truly amazing the amount of support he has!
