Julian's Jacked Up 2020!

Donation protected
2020 has become another word for “hard times” for so many. It seems no family is untouched by death, illness, job loss, and loneliness.

This March my brother, Julian, was furloughed from his job. He spent 8 hours a day on hold with unemployment for weeks. Finally, a couple months in, he started to get some assistance. Shortly after his partner lost the job that provided them both with healthcare. Then he started experiencing debilitating pain. Another couple of months of paperwork, phone calls, and waiting granted him the comfort of Medicaid and the ability to see a doctor! The doc told him he needed surgery, but DC Medicaid required a 6-week stint of PT before they could even order the MRI for the surgery.  During this time his unemployment ran out. But he had also blessedly begun work with the Collective Conservatory where he helped to run workshops for young musicians and collaboratively build some of the most unique collections; painstakingly he pieced together their individual recordings into entire virtual symphonies! This income, along with the gifts of rice, beans, and milk from neighbors, has sustained him through some tough days. Then, his partner was hit in his car and it was totaled. Blessedly Starr had only minor injuries and the emotional trauma of such a bad accident, but they now have no car. A car that had been so well cared for, served as income when he used it to drive for Uber, and was 9 months from being paid off was gone. It was supposed to be there for many years to come. The insurance money covered the remaining balance on the loan, but not enough to even begin to replace their vehicle.

I urged my brother to reach out for help! “People are kind; they want to help!,” I assured him, but he has always looked on the bright side and assured me that so many had it worse. He is just a brilliant light of hope like that! However, he is now facing a winter in DC, no vehicle. He’s walking to and from the grocery store. There is no way he can easily get to and from appointments and is having to cancel or delay his surgery.

So I am asking on his behalf:  Please consider contributing. If you can spare a bit to help out, it would be so appreciated! He is trying to secure enough to repay debts for early medical visits, and cover living expenses and food while he continues seeking doctors care and procedures, continue his business as a creative counselor, composer, and music producer without working more than his body will allow, and, with any luck, replace the family car. If you are not in a position to offer funds, positive energy, thoughts, and prayers are most welcome! Also, if you work with any youth music programs, sharing the Collective Conservatory facebook page and work might help to generate more business!
