Our dear friend and local Ottawa entrepreneur Julia Slanina is about to begin cancer treatment. Julia, the CEO and founder of the Canadian healthtech startup Treehouse, has recently been diagnosed with cervical cancer.

Julia founded Treehouse to shed light on women’s health innovation in an area that has long been underfunded and overlooked. Through Treehouse, Julia has dedicated herself to improving the lives of women by developing impactful solutions that prioritize their health and well-being. As a leader in healthtech, Julia has been a tireless advocate for change, and now, more than ever, it is imperative that she be able to focus on her treatment and recovery while also ensuring the continued success of her company.

Julia’s journey into entrepreneurship and building Treehouse came about when she paused her medical studies to care for her mother who was undergoing ovarian cancer treatment. After her passing, Julia committed herself to innovating to improve patient outcomes for maternal and early childhood health. Julia’s kindness, generosity, and leadership have made a profound impact on the community. Now, it is our turn to support her during this incredibly difficult time.

In 2024, the Canadian Cancer Society reports that the average costs to people undergoing cancer treatment and their caregivers are projected to be near $33,000. This financial strain on a young family is often incredibly overwhelming.
