A little over a month ago, our employee, Julia Sisson, was diagnosed with Breast Cancer at the age of 33. She has since had to undergo bilateral, total mastectomies and reconstructive surgery quickly. She has been unable to work since April 23rd and is laid up, recovering for at least the next few months.

With a family history of breast cancer and knowing she had the BRCA-2 genetic mutation, she was luckily screened often and able to catch the cancer at stage 1.

Julia’s surgeries successfully eradicated the cancer, which is excellent news! The next step will be Hormone Therapy. There is a small chance she may have to have further chemotherapy treatments down the line, but now, she is on the road to recovery.

Any money raised through this GoFundMe will go directly to Julia to pay any unforeseen medical expenses and cover the day-to-day costs of living, including transportation to and from doctor visits in one of the best, (but not cheapest), cities in the world.

Julia is very thankful for having some of the best hospitals in the world at her fingertips. It has truly made a difference in the whole process, but with that comes a financial burden.

Julia has never been one to ask for help, but she could use a helping hand at the moment. Working at Minnows since opening day, she has met so many amazing locals and her fellow staff, whom she now considers friends and even family. She feels so much love and connection to the Greenpoint community.
