On the evening of Sunday, August 19, 2018 a drunk and high driver tore down a residential stretch of Bayview at 168 km/h and ripped away my childhood best friend, Julia Baciu. She was less than 3 weeks shy of her 22nd birthday when she passed away. She was an esteemed student of the Glendon campus at York University, a tutor, mentor, and aspiring teacher. She had an unmatched passion for culture, travelling, food and learning. She was fluent in 4 languages, and proficient in another 3. From top to bottom, she was nothing short of remarkable. I knew Julia for 16 years. Nothing on earth prepared me for the challenge of spending the last year grieving her. 

But there is now a way we can help. Her family has a campaign set up through York University for the Julia Baciu Memorial Scholarship. If they raise $25000 by December 31, 2019, then one student will be rewarded Julia’s scholarship each year - forever. There is nothing that would be a more fitting tribute to our friend than this. She wanted to be a teacher to enrich students’ lives and impose a love of learning to as many as she could. Not only would this scholarship make her dream come true, but it would also be her legacy.
