Good day, friends. My name is Julie Johnson. I am a paraeducator at the local elementary school in Warren. I have lived here for 40+ years. In 2022, my partner Jeff passed away from head and neck cancer. Six months later, my husband Glenn (we stayed married so he could be on my school insurance) passed away from prostate cancer.
I have been working and receive survivor’s benefits from Social Security. Unfortunately, I guess I work too much. Social Security has stopped paying benefits, leaving me in a terrible situation. That money was used to pay the mortgage and taxes on the home I share with my son Tommy, who is autistic. The money I earn from my job pays the monthly bills. I have had to use credit cards and racked up debt.
During the summer, I am not employed. I have applied to a few jobs and am waiting to hear back. But, the more I earn, the more I owe Social Security. I’m in a catch-22.
I am at a loss as to what else I can do. I have applied for loans and been turned down. I really hate to ask for help, but I need to so I can keep Tommy and myself in our home.
I am asking for your help and generosity. Please consider helping us through this tough time. I have applied for a waiver through Social Security, but that won’t help right now.
Thank you so much.
