Hi, family and friends. We are reaching out to ask for your help in supporting our dear brother, uncle, and friend, Jules Desselle. Jules passed away surrounded by loved ones on July 14, 2025. He was an Air Force veteran, a loving member of the Desselle family, and a proud member of his AA recovery community.
Jules' brother and sister-in-law, John and Denise Desselle, have done an amazing job caring for him during the past few months. While Jules was rich with love and kindness, he did not have a lot of money at the end of his life. Because of this, we’re hoping to raise up to $5,000 to help cover essentials related to Jules' funeral arrangements and end-of-life costs.
Your contribution will help cover the following expenses:
- Outstanding medical bills
- Cremation services
- A military burial in Zachary, Louisiana befitting of his service
- A Celebration of Life event to honor his legacy
We are hoping to keep this fundraising within Jules’ close network of family and friends. If we are fortunate enough to exceed our goal, any extra funds will be donated to St. Charles Parish Council on Aging / Meals on Wheels (282 Judge Edward Dufresne Parkway, Luling, Louisiana 70070). Contributions will support a cause that helped Jules in his last year and continue the work of service to others he believed in so deeply.
If you have any questions about this fundraiser, please reach out to me (Leanne Desselle, Jules' niece) or J.B. Desselle (Jules' nephew).
Thank you for helping us honor Jules.

OBITUARY:
Jules Paul Desselle
June 3, 1949 – July 14, 2025
Jules Paul Desselle, age 76, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 14, 2025, at Ochsner Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana. A resident of Covenant Home in New Orleans, he was surrounded by the loving presence of his brother John, sister-in-law Denise, nephew J.B., and niece Leanne at his bedside.
Jules is survived by his sister Doris (Milton) Clouatre of Prairieville, LA; his brothers Philip M. (Peggy) Desselle of Springfield, LA, Ernest P. Desselle of Bordelonville, LA, and John (Denise) Desselle of Hahnville, LA. He was a beloved uncle to 18 nieces and nephews, great-uncle to 23, and great-great-uncle to 21.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest (“Noon”) and Esla (“Tut”) Desselle of Bordelonville, LA; his siblings Lynn (“Sonny”) and Barbara Desselle, Janelle and Roy Michelle, Ronald (“Ronnie”) and Helen Desselle, Eugenia Desselle, Esla(“Nancy”) and Biff Cosper; and sister-in-law Melanie Desselle.
Born and raised in the countryside of Avoyelles Parish, Jules graduated from Bordelonville High School in 1967. He pursued business studies at the University of Southwestern Louisiana (now the University of Louisiana at Lafayette) before being drafted into the U.S. Air Force. He proudly served from 1969 to 1973 as part of the 6922nd Security Group, with deployments in Italy and the Philippines.
After returning home, Jules enjoyed a long and steady career in bookkeeping and accounting, spanning 45 years. In his free time, he loved escaping to his camp near Lake Maurepas, where he found joy in fishing, boating, and sharing meals with friends.
A devout Catholic and a proud member of the Knights of Columbus St. Thomas More Council #5530, Jules served as Grand Knight from 1991 to 1993 and achieved the rank of 4th Degree Knight. He remained an honorary life member.
Among Jules’ most profound achievements was his journey of recovery from alcoholism. In November 1983, he took a courageous step toward healing and maintained his sobriety for more than 41 years. Throughout this time, he served as a mentor, counselor, and sponsor to hundreds—if not thousands—within the recovery community, offering compassion, guidance, and strength rooted in the principles of Alcoholics Anonymous. His family had the privilege of celebrating milestone anniversaries with him, including his 30th and most recent 41st in November 2024.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations by check to St. Charles Parish Council on Aging / Meals on Wheels (282 Judge Edward Dufresne Parkway, Luling, Louisiana 70070). Contributions will support a cause that helped Jules in his last year and continue the work of service to others he believed in so deeply.
A Celebration of Life Reception will be held on Sunday, August 10, from 2:00–5:00 PM at the Clarion Inn, 1500 West Hwy 30, Gonzales, LA 70737. Jules will be interred at Louisiana National Cemetery in Zachary, LA during a private ceremony later this Fall.
Though Jules’ physical presence is no longer with us, his legacy of love, resilience, and service endures. May his memory be a blessing, and may his light continue to shine in all those he touched.
