Hello! My name is Brad Michels and along side of me is my sister Krystal Michels, my step father Fred Geick and my wonderful mother Judy Geick. We would first like to take the time to say thank you for reading this! We would also like to thank the people who have shown unconditional support and love to our family thus far.
This has been the toughest news that our family has had to go through and we share this story in hopes that others can help.
THE STORY
Just a few short months ago, around thanksgiving time, my mother and step father were both stricken with pnemonia. When my step father started to get better and my mother did not is when the story begins to spiral.
On December 8th, 2016, Judy Geick went in to get a chest xray. It was confirmed that she had pnemonia. On December 29th, 2016, exactly 3 weeks later she went back in because the pneumonia wasnt getting better. Thats when a mass was discovered on her left lung.
A biopsy was scheduled for January 13, 2017 to see if the mass was just an infection from the phnemonia or if it was cancer.
5 very long days later my mother recieved a phone call. A phone call that would change our lives forever.
My mother, Judy Geick, was diagnosed with Small Cell Lung Cancer (SCLC). SCLC is a very rare, yet very aggressive and fast acting form of lung cancer that is only seen in about 10-15% of all lung cancer patients.
Currently, SCLC is incurable. With clinical trials and new medicines that look promising, there maybe some hope in the future to better attack this disease.
The doctor had seemed hopeful that the cancer had been caught early and it was in its limited stage.
On January 24th, Judy had a PET Scan to see if the cancer had spread to any other parts of the body. We were not suppose to get the results of the pet scan for a few days but during her radiation appointment on the 25th the results were shared to her. The cancer had spread and now it is in her liver. Unfortunately, once the cancer spreads it goes into extensive stage and is alot more difficult to control. This news has been very tough to get through.
Judy had an MRI on her brain to see if the cancer has spread to her head on Janurary 30th. On February 2nd an appointment was set to discuss the results of her MRI.
Thankfully enough the cancer has not spread to her brain and hope for longevity is still here.
My mother starts Chemotheropy next week and will be missing alot of work. This fundraiser has been created for her to help with things that she will need. Items at home for comfort and for bills that will become of this.
My mother was very hesitant on starting this fundraiser and for good reason. She has always taken care of people. She is a caregiver, yet has a very hard time excepting help from others. After much time spent with her, I finally got her approval to start a gofundme page for her.
Please, if you will donate, share or spread the word of this fundraiser to friends and family we can help her overcome this. Help us show her love that she has shown to many others. This woman is my best friend and hero. She has a large family and its still growing. She is going to be a grandmother again in august and needs your help or love and support. Even if you cannot donate, please let her know you are supporting her or send her cards and letters of hope and love.
Thank you for your time.
