Judy's Recovery

Hi family and friends:
As some of you may have heard Judy went to her hospital’s emergency room on November 8th due to abdominal pain and discomfort. She is an otherwise healthy 40 year old mom of two (Lexi age 3 and Logan age 14), who just ran a marathon in October. The last thing she was expecting to hear that day was that she had ovarian tumour, but unfortunately that was the diagnosis she was given. In the days ahead, upon further investigation it was discovered that Judy also had a large tumor in her bowel.
Judy travelled to the Health Sciences Center in St. John’s on December 1st to meet the oncologists. Yesterday she underwent surgery; she had an oophorectomy where they were able to remove the ovarian tumor. At this point they were unable to take the tumor out of her bowel. Judy will now undergo chemotherapy and then a follow-up surgery in 6 months to remove the tumor in her bowel. Judy will also have the possibility of having to travel to Halifax for HIPEC treatment as this is not available in our province; the referral has been sent to Halifax.
Judy has been off work since her diagnosis and will be for the foreseeable future. Her husband Leon has taken time off work as well to be with her during this difficult time. As we can imagine or even relate to personally, a diagnosis such as this brings with it some unexpected financial stress. A number of people have been asking if there is anything they can do and wanting to help financially. With Judy’s permission I have created this go fund me account. I’m sure any donation would be greatly appreciated and will help relieve some of the financial stress Judy and her family may endure in the upcoming week.
