Hi, I'm Michael Weidick and my girl Judy has been in the hospital for several weeks now and was recently transferred to a nursing facility. My wife has had an affliction called Spinal Cerebellar Ataxia for many years. It was caused by a defective gene she inherited from her mother. It causes her brain to not communicate with her voluntary muscles. It's progressive meaning it gets worse over time. She has many related health issues and has been wheelchair bound for a long time and requires 24/7 care which I have been providing at home. She has breathing issues as well and that’s why she was taken back to the hospital. She had mucous build up in her lungs. They managed to get the mucus under control so now they have been working on getting her weened off the ventilator, with little luck so far. She had an unexpected episode a few weeks ago where her breathing rate slowed down and her heart almost come to a complete stop. They don’t know what caused this. They had to administer chest compressions to revive her. She’s improved somewhat and is on many intravenous drugs for heart and blood pressure. She responds to me very little currently but I think she can still hear me. She continues to improve, just very slowly. This fundraiser was created in hopes of raising funds to assist me with her nursing care and medical supplies so that I can ultimately take her out of the institution she’s currently in and bring her back home to take care of her there, where she would be much happier. Thanks for reading.
