Judy Ray Had a Great Fall

Donation protected
Have you ever met someone who loves unconditionally? No strings attached? Someone who loves so deeply you feel called to pass on that love to others? That's Judy Ray, my mother-in-law. Better known as "Oma," in our household-a name she picked for herself when her eldest grandchild was born. It means old Mama.

Judy lives in Hiram, Ohio with her two dogs, Mendelssohn and Rachmaninoff. For the first time in her life, she lives by herself. Her youngest child moved into college just two months ago. Although she did her best to prepare for life living alone, nothing prepared her for her accident.

On November 8, 2022, Judy fell off a ladder and broke her leg. She has a bicondylar tibial fracture and has an external fixation (rods) attached to her bones so that the soft tissue in her knee can heal and recover. She will need a second surgery to repair her tibia and any soft tissue damage she may have. We are told that the journey will be long but that she should be able to fully recover.

As many of you know, Judy owns her own cleaning business. She takes pride in cleaning people's homes and in some ways, becoming a part of their families. Due to her accident, she will not be able to work for the foreseeable future. All we know at the moment is that she can’t bear any weight on her injured leg for at least 6 weeks after her second surgery and then faces a long rehabilitation process.

So we’ve created this GoFundMe because several people in her life have expressed an interest in giving her a leg up (ha!). We’ll try our best to post updates. For now, keep her in your thoughts because she will undergo her second surgery in a few days and then faces the very painful healing process of rehabilitation.

We’ve done our best to estimate her expenses for the next two months. Any contributions will go towards her bills (mortgage, utilities, etc.) and living expenses so she can focus on recovering as quickly as possible.

If you know Judy, you know that she’s NOT aware her children have organized this fundraiser.

I leave you with this poem that we collectively wrote in the days following her fall:

Our Mama Judy climbed up a ladder.
Our Mama Judy’s knee got shattered.
All Judy's supports
And all Judy's friends
Helped to get Judy standing again.
