Most of those who'll see this have known me for many years as an active interdisciplinary artist. I've been creating, teaching, collaborating and exhibiting at home and abroad. Home is New York City, where I was born and raised and continued to live most of my adult life. For nearly half a century, I've managed to keep a roof over my head & a variety of creatures’ heads in the same East Village 5 floor walk up railroad apartment.
My work is included in a variety of private collections, as well as MOMA, the NYC Public library and The Gemeente Museum Arnhem, in the Netherlands. During midlife I embraced the shamanic impulse as the core of art making, with a special emphasis on the resonance of sound. In recent years, I've presented full moon sound baths at wellness centers, homes for adults with mental challenges, public gardens, galleries, and under the stars on “toppa da 3’s”.
Last April, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Surgery took place in August, there were some complications. September, late October & early December experienced the the agony from kidney kidney stones. Mid December I had emergency surgery to remove the kidney stones. Radiation treatment for the cancer was delayed due to the kidney stones. The radiation course was completed last week. My oncologist is optimistic about my future, however the radiation has drained me of vital energy. Dancing to the carcinoma polka over the last 9 months has taxed body mind & spirit. At almost 70 years old, I’m drained. I find at this stage of life rebounding is…. challenging.
Though I’ve supported myself since I was 16, I neglected to save enough funds for these rainy days. I'm currently three months behind on my rent and electric bill. That's the reason for this GoFundMe. I’m requesting $15,000 to help get back on my feet. Any amount will be a help, and with a donation of $100, I'll send a gicleé print. With a donation of $250 or more, I'll send a drawing.
Thank you for taking the time to read about my situation.
Guess it’s true what Bette Davis said: “aging is not for sissies.” My hope my plan is to share better news soooon.
