I’ve decided I need to go through the long and dehumanising process of changing my gender and name in Italy by raising the funds to prove myself in front of a judge. I have to hire a lawyer to do this and the lawyers fees are €2,200 and there are also court fees (which I don’t know yet). The reason I need to do this now is because I am a dual citizen that was originally born in Italy. I am being required to change my legal gender and name in Italy because it does not align to my UK ID. I cannot access documents like an Italian passport, or access any of my rights including healthcare. Which has been a problem in the past when I’ve needed antibiotics and was in pain for days because I couldn’t get them. I also cannot access a will from any family members. I’ve been transitioning for over 7 years in the UK. I’ve been putting this off because the whole idea of it is anxiety inducing. It’s a luxury to be able to access EU citizenship but it’s also something I must access considering the state of trans rights in the UK. Please help me become Jude at home in Italy.
