Legg Calve Perthes Disease, or LCPD, is a disease that causes the top of the femur bone to die and deteriorate. It affects 1 in 1200 children. 3 o ut of 4 are boys.
Judah was diagnosed in October 2018, after he broke his femur. Later they found that it was a result of the LCPD. Within 2 months his femoral head has become the size of a piece of paper. Frequently, he must be restricted to a wheelchair, goes to therapy every week to try to maintain flexibility and range of motion, but has lost a huge degree of it. He isn't allowed to participate in PE at school, play sports, or do any high impact activities like run or jump.
As a result of the bone deteriorating, he has lost 2 cm of length in the affected leg. He has difficulty with weather changes and sleeping because of pain caused by the elements and trying to find comfortable positions.
Unfortunately, Judah isn't a candidate for surgery until his hip becomes completely displaced. The doctor says this will happen and will be very painful. He is on a waitlist for surgery when it does displace, and within a couple of years will have the first of at least 3 hip replacements. Follow-up visits with the Pediatric Orthopedic Specialist in Indianapolis are necessary for further X-Rays and mobility testing.
Any donations would help cover past and future medical bills from pediatric orthopedic specialist visits, ER visits to try and ease the pain, medication costs, transportation, and special inserts and shoes to help alleviate the pain caused by his leg length discrepancy. Regardless of your ability or willingness to contribute financially, prayers are coveted!
